We recently received our veil order from glamgal veils. We like glamgal because they offer a wide variety of discounted veils, customised with your length, color, and fabric requests. The veil arrived as expected, and we are happy with the final product and cost. We can’t attest to the embellished veils but our plain edge english net veil is exactly what we wanted.

We would like to rate this vendor higher, but have to admit that they have horrible customer service. We have sent several emails requesting information on our order – one two weeks before placing, asking for fabric swatches and delivery estimates. After waiting several weeks for the veil, we sent a couple of follow up emails for delivery estimates. We received no response to any of our attempts, and no notification that the order had shipped.

According to the website, veil orders take 2-6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the embellishments. Our order took six weeks, so if you’re ordering a veil with embroidery or beading, you may want to look elsewhere. Overall, if you have several months until your wedding, we think you can rely on them to get you your veil, but if the lack of communication will make you nervous you may want to look locally.

Sometime in the last week we hit, then surpassed, 200 vendors listed. We are officially Austin’s #1 site to find photographers, bakers, ceremony and reception sites – basically anything you need for your wedding. And we’re not even close to finished.

Never ask anyone if you should be offended! The answer is always: Yes!  Being offended is one of the last joys the adult lady can allow. Revel in your offendedness. Enjoy!

Let me relate a story to you. In the thirty seventh month of planning our wedding, my Patrick took to calling me Louise. I don’t know who Louise is, and I was hurt by his actions. It took all of my book learning – my degree in brain science to finally realise what was happening. My fiance was in love with Louise. Louise had never, to his knowledge, openly weeped for receiving tiny swarovski crystals in sapphire instead of topaz. Louise didn’t know the difference between engraving and thermography.

Louise was, in short, a better partner for my Patrick. It comforted him to know that such a lady could exist, even as I drained his 401k.

Your fiance is sleeping with a lady he works with. If it makes you feel better, she is not enjoying it.

We have been approached about hosting a bridal expo. Now, having never been to one of these, we’re not sure that you find them all that helpful. So, help us out before we decide if it’s worth it – what do you want to see at an expo? What do you NOT want? We’re thinking schwag, flowing booze, awesome door prizes, and the promise to never sell your information to 800 local vendors who will continue to call you six months after your wedding. What have you been disappointed about at the expos you’ve attended? What have you loved?

Over the last two years, I have made every decision about our wedding – from location to florist to our bejeweled monogram cake topper, all with lackluster response. Now that we are in the final weeks of our engagement, it’s time for him to start contributing. He comes to me every time he makes a “major decision”, and is disappointed by my faint praise. “Congratulations on deciding to wear black socks, honey!” and “Yes, I think going commando is a brilliant and sexy idea!” – this is not enough for him. I am not sure what to do, I am burned out on this wedding and I just don’t care which way he parts his hair! What do I do?

Unable to fake it anymore

Dear Unable,

The first thing that you must understand is that men are like babies. Horrible, rude little alien vampire babies who jump from teat to teat, sucking the youth and enthusiasm from any woman who will let them – starting with their mothers and ending, god willing, with you.

If you’ve read my book – Dr Shirley’s Guide to Teaching Your Man to Brush His Own Teeth, available at amazon.com – you will be familiar with my patented grading system for men. Men need to be encouraged and rewarded at the completion of even the most simple and basic task. Every time my Johnny makes in the bowl, I reward him with a licorice candy.

As mentioned in my book, your first priority needs to be on breaking him, both physically and psychologically – if you’re not sure how, ask his mom. This process can take several months, in the meantime, try what I call my shielding technique. Whenever your fiance begins talking about his accomplishments, counter with one of yours.

him:  oh hey I decided that–

you: I bought this awesome paper today. It is milled in Italy. It is a cream color – well it’s almost like a vanilla. I wouldn’t say it’s ivory, it’s a little more pink. It has a nice texture. This is because it is made from cotton fibers. I had to special order it.

The Austin knot board is a great resource for getting darn near instant feedback on vendor questions. That is, when the knot isn’t failing at life and giving constant error messages. We know you’re Knot_Sorry, oh, we know. When the knot isn’t alienating their users, the Austin knotties are super useful, and can answer pretty much any question you have – from where to get black cardstock at midnight (answer: nowhere, go to bed) to how to murder your future mother in-law without upseting your fiance (answer: he probably won’t actually notice).

The staff is a great group of experienced TABC certified bartenders as well as experienced servers. Each one of them has bartended or served either in restaurants, bars or country clubs and all have experience bartending or serving weddings. Currently they offer bartenders and waiters.

The bartenders run at $18/hr with a tip jar or $20/hr without a tip jar (per bartender).
Waiters/waitresses run at $18/hr per server.

There is a $20 travel fee if the event is outside of the Austin City Limits. Also available is a brand new black wood bar (pictured right) that can be rented for an additional $95 (the stools shown in the picture do not come with the bar). The bartenders/waiters serving your event will be responsible for bringing, setting up and breaking down the bar. They also rent glassware at 55 cents per glass – alleviating the stress of having to pick up, wash and return the glassware on time from a rental company. Ask about packages, which include clear acrylic cups, beverage napkins, standard bar ware, mixers, etc., customised to your needs.
